Another slow day

So, because of the slow day what to talk about? Well since this is my forum I suppose I can talk about anything I want really.

I read in the paper today that some home owners in a swanky subdivision are upset about things not being finished. They have a hold/retention pond that they claim is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. And a huge dirt pile that is dangerous because kids play on it. Plenty of vacant lots around as well that are over grown with weeds.

Why does this seem newsworthy? Well I think I can answer that some what. A developer buys a piece of property to develop, which automatically makes the "imagined" value of the property to inflate. Now, I say imagined here as that is what it is. For instance, there is a development near where I live where lots start at 95,000.00. Yes,  you read that right, a LOT. No house, no improvements just a vacant lot.

Now, is this worth it? Of course not. That piece of property is worth about 3,500.00 according to assessment. It is simple greed and imagined worth on the part of the developer. But wait, it gets better!

Now, you fork over all this money for a vacant lot what do you do with it? Well you add improvements according to the HOA, which state that "You must build with-in the standard of the community and construction MUST start with-in one year of purchase of your lot.". It then goes into great detail about how high your house can be, what color it can be, how many windows you can have facing the street and which side of the house your garage can be on. And yes, you do have to have a two car garage.

Now what does this mean? It basically means that if you don't do what they want, they can petition to have you "Removed from the area, revoking rights to the property and all contained there in.". WTF????? Yes, it means they can make you not only remove your flag pole, dig up your flower beds, tear down and move your garage, demolish your storage shed, re-paint your house, move or remove you dish, park your car somewhere else as it's "an eyesore" and.....Ready for this one????????Brace your self.......MOVE FROM YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!

Yep, just sunk 250,000.00 into building your home? Tough, you have to go! But before you do, you have to PAY to have the house "corrected" to fit the community guidelines. Matter if you join the HOA? Nope.

Now, you ask "How can this get any worse?" well let me clue you in....YOU PAY FOR THIS MONTHLY EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO JOIN!!!!!!!  Yes, you pay a "fee" to the HOA regardless of the fact that you don't join or use any of the property facilities other than YOUR home. So regardless of if your property is paid for or not, you get a bill from the HOA.

Is this legal you ask? Yep. Sure is. Since you are informed of this before buying your property. So what that means if you want something other than the cookie cutter house that everyone else has then you need to look elsewhere to live.

Just another example of someone else wanting to tell someone else how they should live. Personally I would show them what they could do with their HOA contract on the front lawn.

NetFlix

So, NetFlix is changing it's price. What does that mean exactly? Well it means that if you use their standard option it will increase by 6.00 a month. That plans includes all the streaming video you want per month plus 1 DVD out at a time.

However you get an option now. If you don't use the streaming service you are paying 8.00 a month for it while getting DVD's for 2.00. Now, when I signed back up for NetFlix I did so because I could  now stream movies to my X-Box360. I went with the streaming only feature. That means for 7.99 a month I could watch as much as I wanted on either a computer or other streaming device. So I don't pay for at home delivery.

All that is really happening is people are now getting an option to not pay for a part of the service they weren't using, the streaming video. So is this something to get upset over?

Well let's look at that for a moment shall we? Do you have phone service? Most likely in some form. Now, with that phone service what sort of options do you have? For your home, or land line, service you probably what I have. Caller ID, call waiting, voice mail, some sort of long distance plan, and probably three way calling and call forwarding. Now, how many of those do you use? Caller ID, call waiting and voice mail? Perhaps the long distance? What about the rest of the things? Don't use them at all? Don't know how to use them? You are still paying for them.

So, what if you were given a different option? If you were given the choice of not paying for those services would you stop paying for them? Yeah you would.  That is all NetFlix has really done. Add on top of that the stories we hear of the perhaps the Postal Service failing and going under what sort of options does that leave?

UPS and FedEx both are more expensive to ship with. Also if you were paying two dollars a month for the DVD service how much profit do you think that makes? Well, let's look at it a moment. If you are like most people you probably go through an average of 4 DVD's a month on the basic service. So, that is .41 cents to ship it to you, plus the cost of the reship envelope plus the .41 cents to return the disk. That cost is .82 cents shipping costs, plus the envelope which we will say costs .20, which brings the total to 1.01. That is the cost of just one DVD. Multiple that by four and you get 4.04 which is 2.04 more than you were paying.

So, by splitting the programs and offering you an option is actually a more practical and honest option for you. You aren't paying for a service you aren't going to use and your cost can stay the same by simply switching services.

What's that you say? You use both services each month? Okay. I can understand your gripe. So let's look at other options. If you cancel the service what are you left with? Well there is always Hulu but that programming is not very vast and they now have a pay service as well. For 8.00 a month you can stream their non commercial programming and have more options. Not 23,000 but more. So what about DVD's? Redbox of course an option for you. However think of this, gas spent driving there to get it and to return it. Plus the 1.00 a day rental. So if you go with 4 movies a month, return them the next day that comes to 4.00. Now, factor in the gas you are using to use that service. I will be nice and let you say it costs you a gallon of gas. 3.48 here for 87 octane. So, 4.00 + 3.48 = 7.48 per month assuming you are never late in getting them back. So, is it worth canceling your Netflix over? .52 a month means you can buy one extra stamp a month. Big savings huh?

So yeah

Why is it when you ask someone a point blank question they don't always give a straight to the point answer?

I bring this up as I asked someone a question in the hopes of getting some more insight into something that intrigues me. Now, I realize that not everyone has the time to go in depth with an explanation for some things. I do the same thing myself when people ask me questions about things. We all do it. Sometimes we don't have time to make the detailed explanation the person asking the question may want. We even refer them to other people or writings.

Now, often times this is not a big deal. Sometimes it is. I suppose the situation would depend on who is asking and why. If for instance you asked your parents about something the understanding is that they will answer it for you. We count on our parents for learning lessons.Same thing with teachers. We actually pay them for information and understanding.

Now, what should the boundaries be for someone you don't really know? Well, I suppose depending on the situation it can vary greatly. If you are calling customer service about something relating directly to you then of course you should get all the information available to you. If you are asking someone you don't know I think any time they give for your question is up to them. If they take at least a token effort to answer it that should be enough, right? Of course it is.

Now my reason for this particular line is this, I sent a series of questions to a scientific doctor, of some renown I might add, for some information. He did in fact take time from his day and work to answer them. Now, part of his answers were to refer me to some other people's work to gain a greater insight into my line of questioning. Did those referrals help with the insight I wanted? Actually yes they did.

Now while I admit I was hoping for a more direct answer I realize that was being selfish. I was hoping to monopolize this man's time. Kind of egotistical of me huh? Yeah it was, you can admit it, I did. What does that say about, not only me, but us a whole? I have no idea.

I do know that I appreciate this man's time and his willingness to share even a few moments of that time with me. So thank you doctor for your time and the information you provided. I will certainly go through it and hopefully get some of the answers I am hunting for.

Ramble of the day

So, not much really going on today. More Casey Anthony bullshit. Some jerk off is offering her a million bucks for an interview.  What a crock.  I am so sick of hearing about her. I am glad that group in Texas that helped search for Caylee is suing her ass off as well as that lady with the name Casey said kidnapped Caylee.

Ah, I am sick of it all. Nothing but bad stuff in the news lately. One exception is this new HIV medication they are testing. Supposedly it lowers your chances significantly of catching this horrible disease. Also kinda funny they are testing it in the birthplace of AIDS, Africa.

It is funny to me though that people are still up in arms over same sex marriage. When are people going to wake up and realize that people are just people? Everyone is and should be, entitled to the same things anyone else is entitled too. If a man wants to marry another man what does it hurt? Simple answer is NOT A THING! He has found happiness in a solid relationship and wants to take it another step. Does that mean your property values will go down? Nope.

The thing of it is they are settling down. Most same sex people who want to get married have been in their relationships for a long time. They are monogamous and highly committed in their relationship. In fact they are usually more committed than most straight people I know.

So why not let them be and live their lives? Zealotry. Simple huh? The bible says it's wrong! Well the word homosexual was not even around when the bible was written. Also the word "Gay" was not used to mean homosexual until really in the late 1800's. It used to mean Happy for shits sake!

Life goes on though and things are changing. As I told a friend of mine who is gay "Change takes time but it does happen. It may not be over night, today or tomorrow but it will happen". And it is happening. Just means we are moving closer to all being equal in this world. Which, if you happen to ask me, is not a bad thing at all really.  Does that mean I believe in peace on Earth? Nope, never happen as long there is more than one person on Earth. Anymore than that and there will disagreements and probably conflict.

On a side note, I heard Rodney King was arrested again. For what you ask? Yep, DUI! Some folks never learn. Drinking and driving do not mix. If you want to booze up, stay home!

Well it had to happen sooner or later.

So, they are again defacing a classic. Yep, that's right. They are re-writing the Bible! Yes, you did in fact read that right.

Now, they are doing this not to change the meaning or stories of the Bible but to change the language of it. So now Genesis will read "When God began to create the heavens and the earth." instead of "In the beginning.". Jesus will also now be known as "the Human One" instead of "the Son of Man".

Also it says to be more respectful of aliens and immigrants as "Don't mistreat or oppress an immigrant, because you were once immigrants in the land of Egypt."

Does anyone still buy that anymore? That mankind started life in Egypt? Well I suppose some do yes.

I bring this up simply as the thought of making something that so many people believe so strongly in "more readability and broader appeal" is CRAZY! People don't believe in the Bible because it's easy to read, they believe in because they have been taught too.

Now, as many of you know I am not the most religious person you will encounter on the street but I have read the bible. A couple different translations of it and even the forbidden books of the bible. Yes, there are books to the bible that you won't find in the book in the back of the pew. Why weren't they included you ask? Well suffice to say that it would certainly paint your faith in a bit different a picture. Yeah I also read the Mormon book also.

So what does this mean to folks? It means that writings of men, written in a language that was not spoken for hundreds of years when it was translated, is once again being re-written. No, it was not written by God it was in fact written by men. Sorry to burst that bubble. Personally I can't wait to see what some of the mainstream hardcore religious people out there have to say about it. Should make for some interesting reading and a few laughs as well!

What an interesting day it is.

Well by now nearly everyone in the country has heard that Casey Anthony will get out of jail next Thursday. The state did not either present enough evidence or did not present it in the right way.

Now what will she do? She has lied about and alienated everyone close to her. She destroyed her relationship with her parents. Her dad was basically put on trial for unproven abuse charges, which by the way does not in way shape or form excuse her actions. She has no where to go, no job and no skills other than lying. So what is left for her? Well a book deal, movie deal, perhaps a spread in Penthouse magazine? More than likely one or all of those things.

The sad part is that people will buy her book, watch her movie and oogle her spread (pardon that pun there please) so she will profit from this. Truly a sad situation there. What is a person to do? Boycott of course. Anyone who buys her book just enables her. It allows her to live the party life style she wants to have. It keeps her in the spotlight she so craves.

Did she kill little Caylee? Yes I think she did. I don't think she did it intentionally. I think she just chloroformed her little daughter so she could go out and party and have a good time. When she came home she found little Caylee dead and freaked. So rather than call the police and admit what she did and face the punishment for it she covered it up with lies. There lies the tragedy. Yes should would probably have gone to jail for it but at least for once she would have done the right thing.

Hard to take yes? Harder to take is the thought that Casey will profit from this. We will enable her to do so. Why? Because it boils down to us as a people want to know what Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had for breakfast. We want to know who Jennifer Anniston is sleeping with.

Personally I think that every person who was in involved with the search for Casey Anthony's daughter needs to sue her for lost wages and what ever they can think of. At least that way she won't be able to profit from this. That way at least there would be a very tiny piece of justice in this.

Shame on the state of Florida for the way they handled this case. Had to go for the big home run hit instead of a double or even a base hit. Could they have convicted on a lesser charge, say negligent homicide? More than likely so. But now, she will spend one more week in jail and then be set free.

So, who do they look at now? Do they stop investing the death of Caylee? I hope not. Rest in peace little Caylee. I do wish we could have done more for you. Yes we do not know the whole story behind your little life being cut short and sadly may never know. Caylee if you mother truly did not want you I certainly would have accepted you into my home to become a part of my family. I am sure thousands of others feel the same way.

Point of interest, at least to me

Well, yesterday I read an article in our local paper about Planned Parenthood losing federal funding. The reason behind this loss of funds is that they PP does abortions. Now while I personally do not agree with abortion I do find myself on the fence with it. I am, what is now only said in hushed terms, a Constitutionalist.

Now, basically what that means is that I still believe in the Constitution Of The United States. Now, in that little old document that was written by the fore fathers of this nation it states a few things that some people are trying very hard to remove for our society now. One of those is the Freedom Of Choice. Now what does that mean? Well to put it simply it gives you the choice to do or not to do things.

It is a catch 22 in some ways though. However I think that in the sense of the wording of that freedom what it means is "If you don't like something don't do it, you don't have too". Now that does not take into account the violation of laws or other peoples rights. So don't take it as a means to not pay your taxes. That amendment only applies to your personal life and beliefs.

So, in the simplest terms it mean that if you don't like abortion then don't have one. Now yes dear readers, I know that is a narrow term and view. I merely use this as an example to make a point. Yes also I know that my view points would probably mean that some of you (all 11 at this point!) might think I need to be tarred and feathered and run out of town! Before you start the tar bubbling think about this for just a moment though will you please?

If we take away a woman's choice, even though we may be totally opposed to it as I am, what is next? Everyday we lose freedoms in this country that our Constitution gives us. What that means is one day you won't have a choice in anything. You will be forced to put your kids in a school that won't teach them anything. One day you will told that "No, you can't drive this type of car as it does not conform to our imagined sense of the type of gas mileage it should get". How about this one, Yes we know your grandmother is important to you but because of her advanced age and the likely hood that she would die in less than five years anyway we have decided not to give her the pace maker.

Sound like something out of work of fiction? Just take a look at the world around you right now. Groups are already at work to remove things from you. Take a look at the movement to remove the teaching of Evolution because it goes against their view of where life came from. Removing the mere fact they don't want to listen to the fact that Evolution does not talk about how life came to be but how it has changed to adapt. Don't forget there are groups out there right now that also want to ban homeschooling as it doesn't teach kids how to interact with other children. Also it allows for a more broad based standard of education they find "unacceptable" which as you know we can't have.

So sit back and do nothing or say nothing. Even if you are for or against it. Let it go and watch it crumble. Yet when it happens please don't complain as no one will want to listen. After all, your stance on it was that you didn't want to do anything about it or be bothered. So hate me for my views and bash away! I look forward to it in fact. At least that way you will get to talking about something and doing something about it.

Thanks for your time. I certainly do appreciate it.

And she was acquited today.

She will walk out of the Florida Detention Center Thursday afternoon free. She has been in jail three years. At most she will get four years and time served for that. Now little Caylee with only become a dim memory for Casey who showed no emotion through this whole thing except when the prosecution introduced photos of her little body. Then only after her lawyers objected to it as it would bias the jury. Her parents sat stone faced while the verdict was read then, without a tear or a glance they left. Casey has nothing now. But don't fear for her. The book publishers are already beating a path to her door for her story, offering huge checks for the rights. Networks will soon follow hoping to make a TV movie of it. Her lawyers are already pressuring her to sue the state for False Arrest and Slander. I don't know she is guilty but from her mannerisms in the court room and the way she acted, well maybe. I know if my child was missing I would not lie to the police about it as I would want him home with me. I would not wait 31 days to report him gone. As to the evidence that was shown the jury? Well there was much much more that was not. Now, poor Caylee is again forgotten on the side of the road somewhere in the justice system. Her memory for the courts will be placed in a box on a shelf and left there. Even if new evidence is found or Casey comes out and said "Yes I did it and now I am free!" she can not be held accountable. She will profit from this and the memory of her child. Rest in peace Caylee, the system may have failed you today. We can not hold ourselves accountable to you this day.The evidence was there and strong enough to get into court but it was not enough. I am sorry Caylee.

What a load of it it is!

I just recently read a book. It was one of those books people read to say they have indeed read it. More to show how deep they are then anything else. What I have heard described as "Intellectual snobbery". Now, some people maybe wondering why these books are published, I know I was after reading this piece of nonsense. However I think I can answer that one. They are published for the same reason they are written, so publishers along with authors can feel they are above everyone else.

The worst part of this is, the writers of these books will people who say "I don't understand the meaning behind your book" will answer with "Of course not, you don't have the intellect to do so!" and walk away. The best part about these "books" is that the authors think they are superior to you the reader. Sadly, they are terribly wrong. Books written to show the intellect of the writer generally fail to do anything other than make that author look as stupid as they are. Snobbery at it's finest!

There are people out there who do however enjoy these books. They are also the same ones who will talk about things that no one else has ever heard of. When the opinion is made that "No one really cares about or knows anything about that" they get defensive and go about the decline of intelligence in the world. Of course if you ask them about real world events or political situations they get a very blank glazed over look. What is a person to do?

The faking of intelligence is a waste of time when the most basically educated person can see right through you! So what is the point of it all? To boost the ego of a fragile brittle person. The need to feel superior to people in such a way is tragic and those sort of people need to be labeled and put on an island somewhere so they can't keep polluting the gene puddle!

Today's point of interest

In our local newspaper than have been publishing letters to the editor about creationism vs evolutionism. Creationists tend to discount the fact that evolution does not in fact talk about the creation of life. It does in fact talk about the way life changes to adapt to it's environment.

People who believe in creationism tend to point out that God made the world and all life "Because the Bible tells me so!". However, the scientist will retort with "But evolution says that life, including man, has changed and evolved over time to better fit with the environment." which just causes the creationist to reply the same way.

Personally I am not up for a religious debate as for the simple fact that religious people will be offended by what I have to say about it. So, since this is my forum I am putting forth another explanation.

For a moment go back in the billions of years of Earth's history (yes, the world is more than 6K years old). There is no life here. Something causes a spark that changes those things. The planet changes to form an atmosphere, water in the form of rain begins falling. All these things come together to form the planet not very different from what we have today.

Now, something amazing happens. LIFE! Yes LIFE! Now that term has a broad meaning so we shall skip ahead a few million years and some Ages that have been classified. Now, we have MAN! He is rather stooped and somewhat short but he is man. Not the one we know today but none the less man. Now, what does he do? Well if you follow the principle of Intelligent Design nothing as he has no need too. We shall however follow the first part of that. Intelligence! Man developed the ability to think, how? Well simply by doing it. This lead man to live in caves. He learned of fire and accepted it as it made life better. Soon, he went from gathering to hunting and gathering. Then, when game became scarce he started migrating, moving from the caves into different structures. Then he learned to plant for food. Herd animals. He became taller, less hairy as the climate changed to a warmer one.

Man's appearance began to change as well. Less slope to the forehead. Brow ridges becoming not so pronounced. So on so forth. His skin tone changed based on where he lived. As did his hair color. Now some would say "Well Intelligent design at it's finest!" and to a degree they would be right. Evolution it's self proves intelligent design as any species that can't evolve with the changes in environment becomes extinct. Science proves that via the fossil record. Species that showed almost no change over thousands or even a million years died out. We still have dinosaurs today. Alligators and sharks are both prime examples of that. They have adapted and evolved to being smaller than their ancestors due to the smaller sizes of their pray.

The open mind does not automatically accept anything. It listens to the facts and theories. It chooses to get more information to begin it's own theory. That theory begins to build and take shape with more information. It is receptive to other theories that may run contradictory to those it already has so as either further cement it's theory or work to discard it.

The closed mind who says "Well no because THIS doesn't say it so it can't be true!" is the mind that will grow stagnant and devolve back to prehistoric man. They do this willingly as they have been spoon fed something for their entire lives and have limited, if any, ability for free thinking. They have no time for "misguided thoughts and nonsense".

Question them in depth about that and they get defensive and say you are "trying to subvert their beliefs and make them change to your sinning ways!". Or worse yet, fall back on something they can't prove. Many a great mind has been punished for free thinking. Even though those thinkers have done nothing but prove things are not always as they seem.

My intent here is not to bash religion in anyway at all. I am sure many of you realize I am talking about the Bible. The very same book that said the earth was set and did not move but all heavenly bodies rotated around it. This was the dominate thinking until the likes of Copernicus and Galileo. Both who were tried, and convicted of heresy. Copernicus was a member of that same clergy by the way. Galileo died on house arrest never having seen the fruits of his labors as it was illegal by church law to read or publish any of his works for a long time. They also said that the telescope was "The vision of Satan and an instrument of Damnation!".

I am not trying to change anyone's point of view, simply asking that people not be so closed minded to the world around them. There are many of things that religion simply does not explain because it can't. Open your mind to new thoughts and ideas then make your own assumptions and theories. I think if you do you will be happier for it!

Hey! My first blog!

So, this is my first blog. I am writing this more for myself than anyone else. If people want to become a follower than that is fine. You do need to know however that this will be things that I find interesting to me. Also be prepared for things that may offend you. While I am not openly offensive to most people some people do find offense simply because I do not agree with their line of thought. So, if you get offended by what I have to say then this is certainly not a place for you to be. I promise you that I will continue to do so simply because this blog is about things that interest me and not you. Sorry about that!
